Diet Pills: Tremendous Temptation, Huge Frauds – Diet

Diet Pills: Tremendous Temptation, Huge Frauds
Dana Scripca

False campaigns
More than 50 percent of Americans and Canadians are overweight or obese. More than a half the advertising campaigns for diet pills and dietary supplements are intentionally false or fail to reveal the truth, according to the FTC. This enormous proportion reveals the dimensions of this money-generating industry. Consumers in North America spend more than $35 billion each year on weight-loss products.
The FDA investigated 300 weight-loss ads from the radio, television, the Internet, magazines, newspapers, e-mail and direct mail. The FDA report concluded that some ads promised significant results without surgery, diet or exercise. Other companies claimed that taking their product would be enough for a quick weight loss. There was no need to eat less or diet. Just take pills.
Fraudulent schemes
The main frauds:
1. Manufacturers promise that their pills will deliver spectacular results, without any effort or exercise. Diet pills are presented as miracles. Just a few mention the FDA-approved diet pill.
2. They fail to admit completely and honestly the risks and side effects.
Many scams have been revealed so far. Here are a few examples:
* Bentley-Myers and three weight-loss products Zymax, MillinesES both containing ephedra, and Serotril containing St. Johns wort were brought under an intense spotlight when the FTC filed a federal court complaint. The FTC alleged that these diet pills caused rapid and substantial weight loss without diet or exercise and with no side effects. An additional charge referred to another dietary supplement, CartazyneDS, containing glucosamine. This was promoted as having the ingredients to cure arthritis and rebuild cartilage in just a few days.
* CortiSlim Lawsuit July 2004 Some CortiSlim TV commercials claimed that the human body is able to manage and normalize weight through Cortisol, the stress hormone. Charging the producer and distributor, public health officials argued that this supplement has no substantiated scientific support.
* Metabolife supplement and brain damages A jury in Houston awarded $7.4 million to a woman who suffered brain damage in a stroke, as a consequence of taking the Metabolife supplement to lose weight. She had been persuaded by commercials that this supplement was safe and had no side effects.
* Mendacious campaigns for the Ephedra-based supplement Trimspa An American hypnotist, Alex Szynalski, and a former Playboy Bunny Anna Nicole Smith joined in a Trimspa commercial which was considered "deceptive advertising" by the New Jersey Attorney General. The hypnotist was accused of luring consumers to his Goen Lose Weight Hypnosis seminars and then tempting them to buy the Trimspa supplements he produced.
* Kava Kava stop sales. Health Canada launched a public warning that this herb, found in supplements and sometimes in food is under suspicion. Its consumption was linked to liver disfunction and toxicity. FDA warned that the Kava extract is delivered under many other names which are difficult to find on the label kava, kava kava, kava-kava, kava root, kava-kava root, kavain, kava pepper, kavapipar, kawa, kawa kawa, kawa pepper, kawapfeffer, maori kava, rhizoma di kava-kava, ava, ava pepper, ava root, awa, gea, gi, intoxicating pepper, intoxicating long pepper, kao, Piper methysticum, Macropiper Latifolium, Piper inebrians, Malohu, maluk, meruk, milik, kew, Rauschpfeffer, sakau, tonga, Wurzelstock, yagona, yangona, yaqona, yongona.
* The invisible Zoller laboratories. Intrigued by the name of diet pills suggested to be taken by Britney Spears, somebody tried to identify the producer of Zantrex 3. Zoller laboratories, apparently producing Zantrex 3, were not listed in any database. They were just a firm created by Basic Research, the company distributing Zantrex 3, for fear that its real name would sound too scientific to the public. The confusion induced by this phantom company nevertheless affected the credibility of the company.

Protein Diet – What Does It Mean For Your Body – Diet

Protein Diet - What Does It Mean For Your Body
Jeff Smith

To really understand the impact of a protein diet, its important to know how it affects and interacts with your body.
When we speak of your muscles, glands, and organs, they are mainly made up of protein. Indeed the two major components making up our bodies are water and protein. So, why all the fuss about protein diet
There is definitely a link between enhancing muscle and protein since muscle is largely composed of protein. So the argument goes, protein diets help in muscle growth which in turn, helps to fight fat.
Just as there are good and bad fats and carbohydrates, there are different categories of proteins as well.
Proteins are composed of amino acids, and the human body requires 20 such amino acids for its normal growth and development. When considering a protein diet, it is important to know that certain foods carry proteins containing essential amino acids which are NOT produced by the body itself but ARE essential to the bodys processing of the other 12 non-essential amino acids.
What does all this mean Your protein diet must include foods that not only provide non-essential amino acids, but more important, must include foods that supply your body with essential amino acids.
Foods you should consider for your protein diet include: broccoli, spinach, walnuts or many other nuts, beans, lentils, pastas, and barley.

The Perfect Diet Just for You – Diet

The Perfect Diet Just for You
Michael Fortomas

You decide to start a new diet plan. You shop around, get ideas, talk to friends, family, co-workers, forum friends, chat room buddies…then you choose the one that sounds best and works within your budget and sign up.
Next comes the fun part of learning a new system. You count calories, track servings, buy special foods, hit the treadmill, plan meals around special recipes, weigh in regularly and log everything.
What happens over time Maybe some of these:
You lose some weight. You gain some weight. The food choices start to bore you. Youd rather count sheep than calories and put the little weighing gadgets back in the drawer. Everyone who thought you could stand to shed a few pounds, even recommending diets for you to choose from, are now saying things that trip you up like, "Oh, you dont need to loose any more weight." Or "Its OK to eat a Big Mac and French fries this time."
Youve started skipping weigh-ins and meetings because of time, then "just because"…no reason. I mean, why go through that, right You KNOW what you should and shouldnt eat, so why go listen, weigh in, blah, blah, blah…
You quit - for now - fully intending to pick up the program next week. OK, next month in reality. Or next year. OK, next LIFETIME.
To begin, simply consider these facts…
A healthy diet goes hand-in-hand with healthy weight management. No pain, no gain, right Wrong!
Individual activity and dietary goals depend upon each persons health and weight goals and issues. Depending upon individual health concerns and issues, food choices can affect body and mental health. Arriving at the Perfect Diet is no quick, simple task in today’s world of fast-paced living.
For example, there are a several different educational food pyramid plans. The United States Department of Agriculture USDA has a food guide pyramid. And the Mayo Clinic, in conjunction with the May Foundation for Medical Education and Research, has their Mayo Clinic Healthy Weight Pyramid. A list of pyramids are updated regularly at the USDA site: http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/Fpyr/pyramid.html
Then there are the lifestyle choices to go along with the dietary plans. Lives need to be balanced in order to make the perfect diet effective. For example, depending upon the body type, history, physical and mental make up and other factors, some dietary solutions are more perfectly suitable and / or adaptable than others when working in accordance with day-to-day activities; exercise, nutrition, health, etc.
You must learn about foods with respect to nutrition, dietary and body basics and common disorders. Then you can choose which areas of importance you would like to focus on from subscriber and other organizational programs available today for help with diet solutions, to weight products, to an assortment of food planning tips, and more.
All the above should be made under the guidance of your own medical practitioners.
