RSS FEEDS: Whither Thou Goest – Marketing
RSS FEEDS: Whither Thou Goest
Tony Dean
I open up the Feed Reader every day on my laptop and cruise the news feeds I subscribe to. The amount of information is now overwhelming, I need to just subscribe to only the feeds that are of immediate interest, else I would be reading feeds twenty four hours every day.
When I click on a link to find out more about a news item, I am taken to a web page with the article of news on it, also there are banner ads, advertising icons to click on, and other side news items to click to take me elsewhere.
The potential for advertising on those web pages for interested marketers is great, not withstanding the change in the news article each day on that web page. One day it might be about Amazon and the outages they kept getting, or the next it could be a pending court case about cybersquatting a brand name. Whatever article is shown the advertisers get their message across. It may not be part of the advertising ploy to sell goods and services from that advert, but to brand their products, or name, for future sales.
One research company predicts internet advertising revenues will rise by 19% next year, they also predict that newspaper advertising will drop considerably.
Future habits of net cruisers will be to immediately open up the feeds and cruise all the latest news, in contrast to going for Google and Yahoo, inputting search terms, and then cruising only those web sites that come up. Please! Dont laugh, most of us still do this!
If a web site has not got its own news feed, it will not get any eyeballs.
Those interested in marketing to the masses should think about trying to get adverts placed on pages of those sites with a news feed, with their name, or web address written prominently, for cruisers to come and visit, but the main objective is to create branding.
The usage of search engines for locating web sites will decline, unthinkable at the moment for most internet users, but their rss feeds directories will be the most sought after to be able to access more feeds. So search engines will still survive, but usage habits will change.
The big-dogs in rss feeds update news on their feeds every fifteen minutes or so, they know that to keep a captive readership that they have to update frequently, or they will lose eyeballs to some other service thats giving out more frequent news. This is critical from an advertisers point of view who wants his ads showing on web pages with updated news as frequently as possible.
I can feel the nudging elbows already as advertisers are trying to get the best spots.
The most money to be gained from rss feeds is by the person who owns one, the advertising revenue from spots on the web pages the feed points to will be flooding in, and with the decline in effectiveness of newspaper advertising, the rss feeds are the only place most advertisers are going to spend their money. The younger tech-savvy 18-24 year olds dont buy newspapers, they also dont switch on the television as much anymore, so television advertisers are looking at rss feeds, especially the big media companies who have millions of ad dollars to spend.
Remember this, anybody, even you, can put up a rss feed.

Confusion Feeds the Golf Industry – Recreation
Confusion Feeds the Golf Industry
Jim McLellan
The policeman drops his paycheck on the kitchen table so his wife can go shopping and pay their bills. They are able to do this because somewhere down the line someone killed, raped, or robbed someone. An unnamed X rated President of the United States can have pizza and frollick with a starry eyed intern in the White House because you are paying the rent.
Heres a news flash for you! If you have been in a coma or have spent the last half century on Neptune, you should know that the golf industry is now a multibillion dollar a year business. What did we learn in paragraph one Somewhere down the line someone supports, funds, feeds or makes possible the growth and maintenance of such a insatiable glutton. How did IT get so humungous Sit here on the Anti-Pros knee and lets toss some ideas around in our craniums.
This hungry monster needs a lot of food money. The dope addict needs a fix. Somewhere there is a need. And, in the golf industry, that need is cleverly disguised as confusion. Confuse the golfer and he will be back for more. He doesnt want anyone to think he is stupid or no talent, so he will convince himself that maybe he just didnt get it the first time, or second, or...
A reader sends along this interesting observation: "My experience has been that the overwhelming majority, 85-plus percent unduly complicate the golf swing. I have spent thousands of dollars to come to this conclusion. I often wonder if it is a deliberate attempt to keep one in golfing no-mans land." Thanks, Chip!
Has the beast made a puppet out of us Send the golfer a new magazine and watch him tear into it to find the "latest tip." Try it. Doesnt work No problem, they will send you another next month that will give you just the opposite advice. The golf pro cant tell you the golf swing is simple. He could explain it ALL in one lesson, but if he did and
IF the golf mags didnt have new "bogus"tips and the book writers didnt have a batch
of golfer wanabees drooling at the thought of getting better.....They would all die an
excruciating death from starvation. They CAN"T tell the truth...It would be Suicide.
AND that $500 driver If your swing STINKS, it will NOT make any difference. It looks pretty goofy to stand up on the first tee with a $500 club and slice it into a subdivision.
Lets build the golf swing around this premise. A 3,4,5 year old watches a good golf swing, copies it and has a beautiful swing. No hi-tech, no books, no freeze frame analysis, no series of golf lessons. Watch Daddy walk....walk. Watch Mommy walk....walk. This is an A....write an A....this is a B.
There are thousands of languages here on Earth and the part of the brain that runs motor skills your golf swing does not understand one of them! If you continue to swallow the grub the golf industry is dishing out, get real comfy and enjoy your stay in................
.......No Mans Land!

How To Use RSS Feeds In Your Marketing – Domain Name
How To Use RSS Feeds In Your Marketing
Dr. Mani Sivasubramanian
It was Friday night. I finished reading a book about RSS feeds. Quickly set up one for my site, submitted it on directories and went to bed.
Sunday morning, I noticed a sale. Idly, I scanned my logs to see where the buyer had found me.
It was from Yahoo! Now that may not seem surprising, except... I had not been listed in Yahoo! before.
Curious, I did a Yahoo! Search for my domain name... and almost fainted in shock! There were 123 of my pages listed - many of them in the top 10 ranks on my best keywords.
My RSS feed had been listed within 48 hours - and since my other pages were linked from it, they had all been indexed by Yahoo! just as quickly. And for free!
Since then I have heard many others share similar experiences. It is no fluke. RSS is H-O-T. And search engines LOVE it.
So what is RSS An acronym for Really Simple Syndication, it is a web language format designed to help syndicate content across different sources.
RSS has been around for more than 10 years but has only recently become popular. RSS feeds provide headlines and summaries of information in a concise and standardized way.
The rise in RSS popularity, specially among marketers, has many reasons. Email filters and new legislation have lowered the effectiveness of email marketing. Content syndication in many different ways is gathering momentum. And fresh, frequently updated content is the very essence of the Web.
How can you use RSS feeds in your marketing Is there a way to turn RSS feeds into profits
Absolutely. Here are some ideas:
Beat email filters. Ask your subscribers, prospects and clients to sign up to your RSS feed along with your email newsletter. If the ezine gets blocked, theyll still get your RSS feed.
Spread the word. Offer your new, valuable content to many other lazy website owners - in return for getting extra exposure of your name and brand to their audiences.
Get listed on search engines. No one knows how long this honeymoon will last. But ride the wave - and get into search engines quickly, inexpensively - by submitting your RSS feeds to them.
Use the first-mover advantage. Dedicated RSS directories are mushrooming. Make sure your RSS feed is indexed in them and you could future-proof your business. Imagine if you were one of the first sites to be indexed in Google or Yahoo 5 years ago!
Offer your readers new content. Keep creating your own content - but also use RSS feed syndication to offer other peoples content to your list. Less pain, less strain, more gain.
And thats not all. On a bet, I sat down and listed 41 different ideas to profit from RSS feeds. Im sure you can do it too - and turn the hot new revolution in online communication into a money magnet for your ebusiness.
Happy blogging.
