Ted Dupuie

A search engine robot actually reads the wording on your web pages and places a certain amount of importance on what the content says, but not quite like a human does. A human will place the words together in their head and try to decipher the relevancy to them personally and decide within a few seconds whether they will continue reading or click to another site, whereas a robot counts words and places all relevancy in the numbers it finds. It also gives extra credit to the size of the type and title of each page. What a webmaster should consider, is every word connecting to a keyword and not wasting words, for the public and the robots. This can be difficult to do when writing about certain subjects, but not impossible. Take diets for instance. Saquoyah Publishing writes diets and uses www.free-diet.biz to promote them, but nobody wants to read pages full of the word diet just bandied around with no oomph in the article that should teach the reader about diets. So a happy medium must be reached to get the website placed high in the search engines database, yet allow the articles to inform the reader of the subject written. Remember, the information super highway is called that for a good reason. Most people just want to learn something about a subject, not necessarily buy something. So if you are selling, the first thing you will want is to get the reader to find the pages you have written, and that means search engine optimization, or SEO as it is called.
SEO should be a major consideration as the page is written, and a concentration on keywords should be the main concern of the page writer. Take diets as an example of page writing. The word Diet or Diets should be placed in the title of each page on the website if at all reasonable, and each page should utilize those words as many times as possible without deterring hopeful customers. The title of the page is the most noticeable attraction to your website from the searcher

Ted Dupuie

Making a web page is a simple job that can be done in minutes by anyone with no previous experience, so I will refrain from going in that direction as much as possible. The first thing an inexperienced webmaster should learn is search engine optimization, before ever making a page. The reason for this is simply because if they learn it after the page is made, it will cause them too much extra work that could have been avoided.
Keywords are the basis of all optimization, and all pages should be named for at least one keyword the webmaster expects people to use when trying to find their page. If your last name is Dupuie and you want relatives to find your family reunion website, then Dupuie will definitely be a part of the page name. If each page is about a different relative then their first name can serve the twofold purpose of helping in the search engine optimization SEO and making it easier to find the page on your hard-drive at home, if you are using a page builder such as Microsoft Front Page. Finding a particular page can be difficult when searching for a particular page to change a picture or just fixing a link.
So let

Link Popularity and Your Add URL Page
Bob Hampton

With all the buzz going on about the importance of a sites link popularity, the "look and feel" of your Add URL page or whatever you have named your add URL page has taken on an increased importance as well.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the look and feel of your sites Add URL page
During the research phase of creating my "Link Popularity IQ" Web site, I encountered Add URL pages that spanned the full spectrum of a possible look and feel rating of 1 to 10.
The "Look" of Your Add URL Page
When you are ready to design or re-design your sites Add URL page, make sure that the quality of that design is as high as possible. Possible link partners visiting your sites Add URL page may very well make a snap judgement of the quality of your site based solely on the look of that one page.
Make sure you pay just as much attention to the look of your Add URL page as you do to what you consider the most important pages on your site.
The "Feel" of Your Add URL Page
The feel of your Add URL page is just as important as its look. If the "how to link to us" instructions on your Add URL page are not 100% clear and easy to understand, your potential link partner may simply go on to the next site on her list of possible partners.
Take the time to create an Add URL page that contains easy-to-understand instructions on how the link exchange process should be done.
An Example of a Quality Add URL Page
I hope you wont think it pretentious of me for saying that the Add URL page on my site is an example of an Add URL page that deserves a look and feel rating of 8 to 10.
I invite you to visit my Add URL page http://wwww.lpiq.com/add-url and judge for yourself.
A Free Add URL Template
If you like the look and feel of my Add URL page, you are invited to check out my free Add URL Page Template http://www.lpiq.com/template.
Please feel free to use the template as an aid when designing or re-designing your own Add URL page.
Summary
You should strive for a look and feel rating of between 8 and 10 for your own Add URL page. If you can attain a look and feel rating of 10 for your own Add URL page, so much the better. The extra time you take now to do it right will pay off handsomely in the future for the link popularity of your site.

Google Page Rank Is Dead - Part II
Martin Lemieux

In part I - Google Page Rank Is Dead - Or Ist It

http://web-marketing.smartads.info/2004/august-11.html

I discussed how Googles Page Ranking System has become obsolete, but at the same time, many business savvy entrepreneurs still give it credit and could possibly discredit or credit your website accordingly to its rank.
"Lets really go in depth to take our 1st steps towards leaving Googles page ranking behind!"
If youre like 1000s of people online, youve been following page ranking so close for so long, it can be really though for you to break the habit. "No habit can be completely broken, it must be replaced with another".
1st Step: Remove Page Rank From Your Google ToolBar
Google probably wont like me for this one but I recommend clicking on "Options" within your google toolbar, take off "Page Rank".
Congratulations, youve done it. Marketing your website has taken a new turn, a bright road is ahead!!
We can now go back and search online. Before we do, try NOT to think about how a websites importance was measured by Googles page rank, instead take a good look at each site that you visit.
Pay special attention to the content, layout, usability, and friendliness. Do you like it Why do you like it Right down things, images, layouts, anything that you like from websites that you pass by.
Create a "Favorites Folder" within your browser, call it "Opportunities". Within this "opportunities" folder, add websites that interest you, or that would interest your visitors.
Combine all these favorite things that you like to form new ventures for your business. Keep GOING BACK to these web resources that you liked and take a look to see if there are any good opportunities for both companies to prosper together.
Web Marketing is never done alone, successful marketing online needs you to create your own "web" to catch visitors with. What better way to do so then by connecting with websites that you like.
Why should we do this
In order to stay away from Googles Page Ranking all together, we need to replace it with our own "web measurement system" to determine whether or not our company should recommend, swap ads, or do business with the other.
In the end, we wont be selecting websites just because they rank well, we will finally be selecting only websites that we all personally like.
Personal resources create a better world for your visitors. Just remember, many of your visitors have no idea about the world of Google Page Ranking and how you may of been addicted to it.
Building A Personal Ranking System:
In order to personally rank websites, there are a few measurements you can take... Ask yourself these questions when browsing...
* What is their alexa ranking or Rank from Ranking.com
Does the site seem to be getting matching traffic with yours
Does the site you are looking at have incoming links from Google in the same industry as yours Pay close attention to who links to the websites your research.
* Most Important: Do you get a good feeling when you visit their site
If you dont, 8 times out of 10, other visitors wont either. I never recommend a website that doesnt feel right. 1st impressions mean a lot more than people think. At times, the internet is a sub-conscious activity and many things that we see make us react to it without even knowing it. You want people to like you and trust you enough to do with business with you.
* Last but not least: Will you be happy knowing that the websites you recommend have a personal touch and your visitors will be better off because of it
Once we all get in a good groove online and start adding complete personal resources on our websites, the internet will be a better place for all our visitors.
Try and let the larger resource directories within your field to list everything possible, the best course of action for your business is to create something with your own personal touch.
I hope youve enjoyed this II part series!

Radhika Venkata

"Page Not Found on this Server. Check the URL and try again. Or Refresh the page..."
This is the annoying error that we will come across every time we surf the web pages. Internet will be changing every minute and day. The web sites that were here are not found next day. The web pages that were here with /page.html are changed to /page1.html next day.
Webmasters update their sites and change the links and content. While they doing so most of them forget one important thing.
"What will happen if somebody bookmarked this page and try to visit next time"
Simple...Those people will see these 404 Page Not Found Errors.
Let me tell you some tips how to avoid all these tiny mistakes and get something from these error pages.
**Custom Error pages:**
Most of the hosting companies allow to create error pages as you like with your own Html and upload to your website. If you dont upload your error pages the server displays default server error pages.
Utilise this oppurtunity. Create a page with any of the following:

Put links to other parts of your site. Links to main pages is enough to navigate back in to your site. 2. Direct links to your products.
Promote your Affiliate links
Offer something free from this page like free ebooks, free email course etc.
Your Ezine subscription
Discount on your product
If you are conducting some polls on your site you can keep that poll on these pages too.
Keep an email link on error pages and you can request your visitor to inform you about the error.

All these keeps your visitor some more time on your web site. Every link above will be a benefit for you.
**Watch Your Bandwidth:**
DONT put too much Html or graphics on these error pages. By the time they will download your visitor might hit the back button or get out of the site.
Lot of graphics also increases your bandwidth usage. The web sites are continually attacked by viruses. If you have a good web logger and check it once in a while you will see some hundreds of page requests with 404 errors. All these 404 errors drain your bandwidth. So keep an eye on size of error pages.

Shery Ma Belle Arrieta-Russ

Nothing is more daunting for any writer than having to stare at a blank sheet of paper.
When we stare at a blank sheet of paper, we often think, "What am I going to write" A few minutes later, it becomes, "Oh my goodness, I cant think of anything to write!" And several minutes later, it turns into something like, "Write, dangnabit! Write! Write! WRITE!"
Some writers call this writers block. But I call it the "Writing-Muse-Needs-A-Kick" syndrome.
Dr. Lynella Grant

Stand Out in Ways that Matter to Directory Users A Yellow Page directory presents a difficult challenge for advertisers. All the competitors are packed together, within the space of a few pages. Each ad within the directory category screams "Notice me!" so insistently, they blend into an muffled chorus. Its not easy for one to stand out with a clear, distinctive voice - like a soloist above the choir. That only happens when the business is clear about expressing its unique "song," and understands what buyers most want to hear.
It isnt surprising that most Yellow Page ads say pretty much the same thing. They were all prepared by the same directory employees. What do they know about marketing About copywriting About whats unique and desirable about your enterprise
The people making the ads "grind them out," using the same templates and guidelines for every ad, in every category. Originality isnt in their job description. Following the formulas for how an ad "should look" is a formula for being ignored.
These quick fixes cut away the bland sameness afflicting most ads. Disregard for now the related issues like the ads size and placement. Such factors just amplify or diminish an ads impact. A poor ad is still a poor ad, even if its very large. Coupled with fine-tuned copy its own topic, these fixes will improve the impact of any size of ad, for any directory heading.
Try these Quick and Easy Fixes You dont have to be a designer or copywriter to make your ad stand out. You just have to understand your customers unstated wants, so you supply precisely the information that theyre looking for. And you need to know how youre different than your competitors. Set yourself apart, so you dont fade into the background, as most ads do.
1. Shrink the business name. That is NOT the most important part of the ad in the readers mind. And it crowds out the space for information that that could sell them on you. Once you can get them to want you, theyll be able to find your name and contact information OK.
2. Ditto, shrink the graphics. They may be helpful to catch the eye initially, but add nothing to what directory users want to know. Images often distract from the ads message, wasting its moment of attention on trivialities.
3. Provide a headline that hooks the readers interest the category or business name isnt one, but most ads act like it is. A strong, emotionally-charged headline pulls attention into the rest of the information. It makes people stop skimming and actually read. Provide a promise that hits their hot button in a way that applies only to you but not every other competitor in the category
4. Make the location easy to find. Half of all directory users scan ads for the business location first, and then only consider those ads which are convenient. Location of the enterprise overrides an ads size or placement in the directory.
5. Display your expertise, along with a reason for buyers to seek out your specialized knowledge. Offer a booklet, class, in-depth information on your Web site, etc. This also establishes your credibility in customers eyes, which is crucial to building sufficient trust to complete a purchase.
6. Buyers are hunting for information that can assist in making a purchase. When they open the directory, theyre hoping to find a business that in some way communicates, "Im the one youre looking for." Make it easy for them to know its you, by giving ample information directed at their concerns. Organize it in bulleted lists.
7. Add your Web site address domain name and/or email address. Treat your Web site as a place to expand the size of your Yellow Page ad. Then state a reason why a person wants to check your site: www.mysite.com for 23 simple ways to keep your dog from over-eating Or www.myrestaurant.com for recipes to our award-winning desserts.
8. Arrange it all so the information flows logically, and to please the eye.
9. Eliminate images or phrases that appear in the other ads. Find a different, more interesting way to express it.
10. Dont let the directory do your ad for free. It will end up costing you too much.
The Ideal Yellow Page Ad The very best ad is the intersection between what a buyer is looking for, and what a business provides. When a business is attuned to its customers priorities and needs, it can say exactly what rings their bell. For example, a harried mother will respond with relief to the phrase, "Free Childcare Provided." That service carries no weight with a business person, who may consider "No extra charge for weekend service calls" the clincher.
What really makes an ad stand out is the specifics, not the generalities which is what every other ad says. Visit www.yellowpagesage.com for advice from many experts about getting more mileage from your ad. Or obtain a customized critique of your ad, that eliminates the guesswork about what needs fixing.
Directory users are ready to buy. Simplify their lives by making your products and services so "just right" that choosing you is their only sensible choice.

Ted Dupuie

An inexperienced website builder must understand that free web hosting is a great way to get more than one site up and running quickly, and that www.articlecity.com is the fastest and easiest way to fill those sites with relevant material. For instance, my site at www.saquoyah.com has one hundred and sixty pages that were written by various authors and posted at ArticleCity by the writers. This arrangement fulfills five purposes to the satisfaction of everyone involved. First the writers of the articles get to help the readers and themselves by having links back to their websites. Second, ArticleCity gets many links to their index page and that in turn keeps their site in a top placement with search engines. Third, the little website owner saves an enormous amount of writing, yet gets his or her website full of pages that link back to their index page, so the search engines will place their site a little higher in placement. Fourth, the person doing a search gets to find a lot of points of view by various writers on the one subject they are poring over. Fifth, the search engines have more pages in their database for the searchers to look through.
While free web hosting has it
