A Room With A View
Scott Chamaden

In March of 1999, the Guinness Book of Records bestowed upon Hotel Everest View the title of Highest Placed Hotel in the World. This hotel is situated 13,000 ft 3,964 m above sea level in Sagarmatha National Park in the Southern Khumbu region of Nepal. With its luxurious accommodations, guests stay overlooking the Himalayan peaks and Mt. Everest.
A Japanese construction company, Trans Himalayan Tours Ltd, built the Hotel Everest View in 1968. In October of 1973, the hotel opened its doors for the first time. The hotel was built with the intentions of attracting wealthy Japanese tourists seeking luxurious getaways that offered a breathtaking view of Mt. Everest. In order to accommodate tourists, the Shyangboche airstrip was built to receive private plans and helicopters.
Unfortunately, the Japanese tourists encountered some difficulties adjusting from a lower altitude to 10,000 ft above sea level. Tourists flying into the Shyangboche airstrip from Japan experienced horrible motion sickness, including nausea and vomiting. Even though Hotel Everest View offered a beautiful view of the surrounding peaks and high-quality accommodations, guests were unable to enjoy themselves.
Hotel management tried desperately to resolve the issue by supplying guests with oxygen tanks, but the problem still remained. It was after several deaths were reported that the government finally took action and forced the Shyangboche airstrip to shut down, leaving Japanese tourists to fly into Lukla 9,200 ft and walk three-days up the mountainside.
Elimination of chartered flights into Shyangboche airstrip caused a devastating affect on tourism for Hotel Everest View. Very few tourists would endure the three-day hike up the mountainside to enjoy the amenities of the hotel. Business declined rapidly and left the facility bare. Since than, the Shyangboche airstrip has reopened to transport gear and supplies to Mount Everest. Tourists that are accustomed to the altitude fly into Shyangboche airstrip to visit the Hotel Everest View.
Tourists still climb up the mountainside from Namche Bazaar, in the Himalayas, to stay at Hotel Everest View. Although the menu has changed from ravishing meals to light food and hot and cold beverages, this Japanese run establishments accommodations are still breathtaking. For a reasonable rate $170-$270 per night, guests can enjoy a luxurious room overlooking the surrounding peaks.
Hotel Everest View is staffed with Sherpa people, who are natives to the Mt. Everest region. Om mani padme hum, a Tibetan Buddhist mantra, is inscribed on the hotel interior walls. These ancient stone carvings serve as a constant reminder of the Sherpas deep religious beliefs. A Sherpa tour guide is on hand for guests.
Plane or helicopter charters are available for guests that desire a more direct flight to the hotel. Guests may also take advantage of a 50 minute flight over Shyangboche from Kathmandu and walk 45-minutes up the mountain trail to Hotel Everest View.
Reservations and transportation can be arranged through:

Change The Style Of Your Interior With A Minimum Of Costs
Clark Vansteensel

The style of your interior depends for a great part on the decoration on the walls. Using the right picture on the right place can make your room look bigger. I experienced this for myself when I came in this business. I do sell reproduction paintings, you know.

Actually, I came in the reproduction painting business because I was amazed about what one painting can do to your living room. Let me explain. I had an old painting on my wall that looked very nice. But, there was something missing. I decided that I had to replace it. I always wanted a Van Gogh, but I knew I would never be able to buy one.

After a few months I discovered that there was a business that did just what I was looking for. I bought a reproduction painting from them, and this is the way my own business started. I was overwhelmed by the artistic talent of the reproductionist who captured the realistic impressionism of Van Gogh. So I decided to work together with these guys.

I figured out they use the same techniques the old masters used. With several painters who are specialized in one artist, and only reproduce work of that artist. There are specialists of Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir, Gauguin and a lot more impressionists.

Since I started this business I feel like helping other people realize there dream. They are affordable for everyone. You can already buy a "real" Van Gogh for as less as 120 USD. This is not too much for a beautiful lasting post-impressionistic piece of artwork. If you are searching for this kind of timeless house warming painting, go and check out my website at http://www.repropaint.com

Aspartame Interview With Dr. Hull
Dr. Janet Starr Hull, Ph.D., CN

This aspartame interview was granted on 8/30/03 with Rebecca Kang from Singapore:
Interview
Q: How often does an average person happen to consume products with aspartame
A; Daily in the United States. Aspartame is put into so many different products, consumers are exposed to it without awareness much of the time. Aspartame is in many products NOT labeled sugar-free, such as gums, cereals, ice creams, yogurts, and medications. I also have clients who consume up to a 12 pack of diet colas daily. And keep in mind, that children are consuming more and more aspartame laced products at earlier and earlier ages, which means they will develop health problems at earlier and earlier ages. Henceforth, the onslaught of childrens disease syndromes - diabetes, ADD/ADHD, depression and behavioral disorders.
Q: What is the limit for safe aspartame consumption
A: None. No human, nor any animal, should intake methanol at any dose at any time - ever.
Q: Aspartame is a very controversial food additive and has alleged harmful effects. However, is there any proof for that accusation
A: Numerous research studies. Reference Sweet Poison, as I write about the independent research scientists with tangible research results of harm to the fetes and adult laboratory animals. One fact to note: independent researchers have proven over and over again the dangers of aspartame, while the research stating it is safe has been performed by research scientists on corporate payrolls. This is not objective research but has the power of money behind it. Independent researchers dont have the financial backing, so they are pushed out of the spotlight and kept silent.
Q: Would you agree that the public in general is poorly informed about aspartame If so, what are the possible reasons
A: Absolutely correct. The reason is money and greed. The pharmaceutical companies own most of the products aspartame is found in, and they also own the advertising entities, and the drugs prescribed for the health symptoms caused by aspartame. Therefore, the same companies who are causing the problem profit from the drugs to mask the symptoms. They control the whole game, and have financial interest in the government agencies responsible for public safety.
Q: We recently did a survey on the awareness of Singaporeans towards Aspartame. Results clearly show that a majority of Singaporeans have no idea what aspartame is. And also a considerable portion would not bother to find out what it is, despite hints that it could be suspicious.
A: Apathy is a danger in modern societies. Too little time, too much pressure at work, and too many conveniences with too little physical effort to get them. People are becoming lazy. The younger generations are becoming lazy, too. If we all would learn from history and from our elders and remember to get back to the basics of living as they once did, the diseases and mental instability caused by the toxins within our environments and our foods would be less today. Money and things have become too important. Our health and mental stability are suffering because of it.
Q: As a nutritionist, would you agree that most Singaporeans have little idea about what they eat If so, what would you advice us to do to increase this awareness in Singapore
A: We must slow down, get back to the basics of life, and not be sheep lead to the slaughter when it comes to modernized foods and convenience products. Convenience and technology is wonderful, but not to the degree that we can be so easily manipulated and so easily lead down this road of imbalance.
Q: Would you, at all, advise Singaporeans on a need to find out the safety of their food Or would you trust that to the health authorities
A: I would not trust the authorities of any country who agree to barter with corporations dealing financial gains at the expense of the pubic. I once trusted our leaders to be fair and truthful, but cannot and do not any more. As I wrote in Sweet Poison, the FDA is not the bad guy in America, and for the most part, governments as a whole are not at fault. It is a chosen few individuals within the government agencies who impose personal reward at the expense of millions of consumers.
If it werent for the Internet, none of this information would be public today. Neither you nor I would be sharing this information right now. But as a professor, researcher and educator, I will always believe that it is imperative that all people know both sides of any issue. Truth is freedom. To manipulate the truth is a crime. Make sure your political leaders are not willing to make a deal with the larger corporations who profit at the expense of the masses. And also make sure the truth behind aspartame, and any issue, is allowed to be spoken publicly. In America, the wealthy manufacturers pay-off or threaten those who choose to air this information publicly. I have much proof on this.
Q: If there is any other information you wish to add, feel free to include it in the reply for the interview. We might have overlooked some important points.
A: Please go back and reread Sweet Poison, as so much is said within those pages. This issue is real, and not meant to harm anyone but the pocketbooks of those who gain millions. This information is meant to teach individuals of all cultures the hidden facts and dangers of a manipulated and very toxic food chemical saturating the worlds food supply. Money has bought aspartame its position of power - not quality of goods. People are getting very sick and weak from aspartame. That is true and very real.
Good luck in your quest for perfection, truth, and understanding. Our food supply is a web of confusion in modern times. Money, greed and power are at the root of too many modern foods. Politics interferes with human survival and health. Sad, but true. What do we do Get back to the basics of eating and drinking so to feed our bodies and our minds what nature intended. Slow down, take time to meditate and get to know yourself. Be happy with who you are and dont strive for more than you need. To open the door to future health, we must find the keys from the past. There lie the answers of simplicity and health.
There is so much to say on this issue. The roots run deeply into the self, politics, governments, and greed. All you can do is be the best individual you can be, stay unattached to dependencies and quick fixes. Look at the motives of those who push these drugs on society and decide for yourself why this benefits you above profit. If you can see no goodness or purity in a product, put it back on the shelf.
And most importantly, teach the children how to get back to the basics of life.....
Wishing you and Singaporeans well. Keep spreading the word about aspartame and always stay open-minded.

Lose Weight With Soy!
Kim Beardsmore

The humble soybean boasts some extraordinary benefits. This nutritional powerhouse has stayed under wraps for too long. Apart from being the only vegetable protein with all 22 amino acids essential for our health and well being, the humble soybean has many other virtues...including an excellent foundation for fast, safe weight loss program.
According to Dr David Heber in "The LA Shape Diet" women who are on a weight loss program, need about 100 grams of protein per day to fight against hunger and to build their best personal lean muscle shape whilst still losing weight. Without the appropriate level of proteins in a low calorie diet, people and women in particular, risk losing 1 pound of muscle for every 4 pounds of weight lost!
Dr Heber recommends soy-protein shakes or soy-protein fruit smoothies as a safe and healthy way to achieve fast and permanent weight loss. Apart from the wonderful health advantages of soy, this a safe protein source without the unwanted cholesterol and saturated fats that accompany animal protein sources and sabotage low calorie weight loss programs.
Read on to discover some other wonderful benefits of this incredible this food source.
1. Soy contains health enhancing isoflavones. Isoflavones are compounds found only in plants which have strong antioxidant properties. hese compounds repair, and help prevent damage to cells caused by pollution, sunlight, and normal body processes. Free radicals can easily cause harm to the immune system, whose cells divide often. They may also be responsible for some of the changes of aging.
2. Reduce risk of heart disease. Soys protein and isoflavones lower LDL cholesterol and decrease blood clotting, which reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke. In one study, people who drank a "milk shake" containing 25g of soy protein for nine weeks experienced, on average, a 5% reduction in LDL cholesterol. And people with the highest LDL levels experienced a 11% drop. For each 10% to 15% drop in the LDL level, the risk of a heart attack decreases 20% to 25%.
3. Protection against cancer. Soys soluble fiber protects the body from many digestive related cancers, such as colon and rectal cancer. While its isoflavones may protect the body from many hormone related cancers, like breast, endometrial uterine and prostate cancer. Isoflavones act against cancer cells in a way similar to many common cancer-treating drugs.
4. Counter the effects of endometriosis. The isoflavones in soy products may help to offset the action of the bodys natural estrogen, which is often responsible for instigating the monthly pain, heavy bleeding and other symptoms of endometriosis.
5. Protect against prostate problems. Eating soy products may protect against enlargement of the male prostate gland. The size of the prostate gland tends to increase with age, causing various types of urinary difficulties, including frequent nighttime awakenings.
6. Guard against osteoporosis. Soys protein enhances the bodys ability to retain and better absorb calcium in the bones, while its isoflavones slow bone loss and inhibit bone breakdown, which helps prevent osteoporosis. There is evidence to suggest that isoflavones may also assist in creating new bone.
7. Control symptoms of menopause and perimenopause. Soys isoflavones help the body regulate estrogen when this hormone is declining or fluctuating, which helps alleviate many menopausal and PMS symptoms. Research has shown that soy isoflavones can reduce menopausal hot flushes in women.
8. Help control diabetic conditions and kidney disease. Soys protein and soluble fiber help regulate glucose levels and kidney filtration, which helps control diabetic conditions and kidney disease.
What an incredible little bean!

How to Cope With Colic plus articles and information on kids

How to Cope With Colic
Monica Faircloth

When my oldest daughter was born, I walked the floor night and day, rocking and swaddling, singing and even crying...anything to make my new little miracle stop her endless crying. Well, everyone told me she just had colic and that it would pass. And, alas, pass it did, however I wish that I would have known then what I know now.
There are many theories about the causes of colic. Many believe that it is breastfeeding that causes it. "Either you are eating something that is not suited to her little tummy or you must be feeding her too much.." they will tell you. Well, maybe. Others believe that bottlefed babies are allergic to the formula. "Switch his formula and he will be just fine..." they will tell you. Well, yes that could be it too. Some will say it is gas or an immature nervous system. Maybe. And the list goes on and on.
However, I believe that the answer to solving colic problems is simple. Babies simply "come out" too early and therefore miss out on their "fourth trimester" in the womb. This new world needs a lot of getting used to, and some transitional coping methods are in order. Below are some sure fire ways to soothe a colicky baby and restore them to their comfortable, womb-like environment. Well, they will think so anyway.
1. Swaddle her. Babies up to four months old feel safe and secure when bundled and will calm down. This imitates her cozy womb environment and soothes her cries with a sense of familiarity.
2. Carry him in a sling or carrier close to your body and walk around. The motion will imitate the movements he felt while he was being carried in your womb.
3. Play "white noise" such as the dishwasher, washing machine or even the vacuum cleaner to imitate the sounds she heard while safe and snug in your tummy.
4. If all else fails, go for a car ride. The motion will imitate the frequent movement he felt while in your womb and may calm him, and you, down.
Some of these things will work all of the time and all of these things will work some of the time, but just keep in mind that this will all pass.
